Discrimination for Simply Being

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about not being able to walk around in my neighborhood, or do my grocery shopping, or do any of the things I do on a day-to-day basis, unless I first get dressed. To many, perhaps most people, this wouldn’t pose a problem, but to some people in our society, certainly to me, it does. It means I have to sacrifice my most basis beliefs, the very core of who I am, just to I can restock my food supply or go out for a few minutes and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, perhaps take my precious puppies for a run through the neighborhood we’ve been living in this past year.

And then I thought about something a friend said recently, “We are all nude to start with. It’s how we are born, how we are every day before we choose to get dressed. The nude human body is the original intent for our life on Earth. Clothing is the perversion. You have to choose to get dressed, to cover the nude body that is the true norm.”

That’s an extremely provoking thought. And it’s perfectly true. The nude human body IS the original intent, otherwise we wouldn’t all continue to be born nude constantly. Each and every baby that has ever been born and that continues to be born constantly on this planet, no matter the race, the gender, the nation of origin, the society or culture, or the religious beliefs of the parents or lack thereof, each and every baby continues to be born nude.

Whatever happened to evolution? If people were evolving, shouldn’t we have begun being born with some sort of covering over our skin? Certainly at least over certain parts of our anatomy, right? But that doesn’t happen. For all the millions of years scientists claim humans have been on this planet in one form or another we have always been born completely nude. So we can only conclude that this is how it is going to be until such time as the human race ceases to exist, right? That means that nude bodies are the norm and wearing clothes is the perversion, the choice, the lifestyle decision that each person makes each day when deciding what to wear, effectively deciding who to be that day when facing the world.

It is the issue, however, of nudity being the actual state of being that I want to really focus on in this blog this time around, so let’s get back to that.

The laws that exist here in America, and I would suggest everywhere else as well, though I have not looked at most laws in other countries that affect being publicly nude, are all written based upon bigotry and discrimination against our simply BEING. That’s right. This is what we all need to wrap our heads around and get firmly rooted into our minds, not that our rights are being infringed upon by not being able to live the lifestyle we choose, but that we are being prevented from BEING. To those of us who are so firmly rooted in our nudity, our naturism or nudism, it is not a choice we make to be nude, it is simply who we ARE. We cannot change the fact that we are nude. It is a given fact that we are nude as evidenced by what I already pointed out. There is nothing in this world that can change our being nude. We simple ARE NUDE. So these “laws” prevent us from BEING, and no law can do that to a human being.

I think we need to change our strategy. We need to file grievances against the cities, counties, and states we live in for preventing us from BEING. As Americans we are guaranteed the “pursuit of happiness,” but how can we when the most basic right of all, that of BEING is denied us? It is inhumane. It HAS to be stopped and we are the only ones who can do it. Will you?

  1. You are so right on the money, Brooke. These laws discriminate against all of us at our core principle, against us at our most basic level, they prevent us from being US, they prevent us from BEING. Well said.

  2. Totally correct. In this day in age when we are told to accept so many alternate lifestyles that many people feel are unnatural, being nude is the most basic human state yet it is considered taboo. It is not a lifestyle choice; it is a state of being. We subject ourselves to societal pressures of appearance by having to wear certain types of clothes to demonstrate our socioeconomic status, yet being nude carries no class distinction. We all have a nude state like it or not so why is that wrong?

The concept of modesty was applied to the nude human body back in Roman times as a means of controlling society and it exists to this day. Modesty has nothing to do with being nude because our bodies come in two types and there is no mystery to them; therefore, no shame. It is the concept that we need to conceal certain parts of our bodies and attaching sexuality to them that must change to mores change as well.

No place is this misfounded sense of modesty more absurd than when swimming. Men wear these baggy shorts that make swimming efficiently difficult, and women wear little swaths of cloth that don't cover that much and are prone to constant adjustments. Both articles of clothing are uncomfortable in a situation where you are trying to relax and get some sun. I figured out the absurdity of wearing a swimsuit years ago and I now feel uncomfortable when I go to a beach or pool where I have to wear clothing.

Society does need to change but governments are filled with people trying to control others. If your concepts do not fit within their beliefs and objectives then you will not being able to change it. Unfortunately making nudity lawful does not benefit the progressive agenda; therefore, it will not be pursued.

Please keep up these thought provoking blogs.

    1. Thanks, Mark. I hope we can make a change and these laws will be repealed all across this nation, but you are most likely right. That won't stop me from trying and fighting. One of my best friends taught me to fight no matter the odds, if it's something I believe in with all my heart, and in this I do.

  4. It is perverted that sexual displays in strip clubs are legal, while being naked in an unprovocative manner in public is illegal.

    1. Well, to their credit, cities and counties at least restrict strip clubs to an inside venue and people have to pay for their "pleasure," and some areas forbid them altogether. But yes, it's a shame they are allowed at all, while normal nudity is illegal in the same areas. Good point.

  6. Brooke, I got your Link from D H Jonathan's site. I'm impressed with your thoughts on this. I've been doing a lot of research on the subject since reading "The Volunteer". There are places in Europe where non-lewd, normal behavior nudity in public is allowed. These same places would ask that you have permission to enter private places, like church or restaurants, but publicly you are allowed as long as you aren't offending anyone.

That's half of the nature of the problem here in the States, you can't throw a pebble onto a cobblestone street that SOMEONE doesn't get offended. Our nude state is the work of the Creator, only the Creator could be closer to perfection, but yet we insist on throwing drapery on that perfection. The irony is not lost on me. For me, I believe we only need clothing as a tool. It's cold outside, put on a jacket. We're cooking, put on an apron. The street is hot, put on shoes. But why must we be indoctrinated to think we must wear clothes to sleep, to relax, to recreate, because others insist on it.

The other half of the States' problem is that nudity equals sex (in their minds), sex sells, so no corporation is going to dismantle the false premise that nudity equals sex. They'd rather keep the status quo. Skimpy bikinis sell sun tanning lotion; allusion to nudity sells body wash, soap, shampoo, condoms, sex gels/ lubricants; and non-nude sexual or suggestive behavior sells pretty much all else. If everyone were nude, what would advertising agents be left with? The truth about products? That would be the answer to "What would NOT sell the product".

Then, of course, there really are the perverts - so engorged by the sexualization in America that they are slave to it and would make our public nudity a risk, sad to say. Much like Dani and the teacher (No further spoilers).

We really have to take steps toward living the natural state. We have to detoxify America, and we're up against hardened idealism and corporate greed to do it. I'm with ya, believe me. Just aware that it's an uphill battle, for sure.

  7. I recommend fixing this first at local levels where government control freaks are fewer and smaller groups can make an impact. It would also become a local economic benefit (like legalized marijuana is playing-out).

We need a "nudist lobby" to help move each city along.

    Santa Cruz, CA achieved this

  8. They use sex to sell everything from soaps to condoms and everything in between but God forbid you take your clothes off in a public place. We need the form of lobby at the local levels of each City then the state then the nation you can breastfeed in public you can wear your skimpiest bikinis in public and that's okay but God forbid you show your genitals because that's part of your body. It's nudism discrimination and like every discrimination there should be a law suit that's the only way we get any place seems like with lawsuits. I would love to lay out to the backyard and get some sun but I've also got neighbors that have kids I don't want to be arrested the lewd and lascivious and have to register as a sex offender just because I'm trying to get some sun on my buns. What's wrong with this picture after all we were all born nude and right now you're naked under your clothes if you're wearing any? I'm open for suggestions on how weekend bring this to the attention of the lawmakers the past bills on public nudity oh, this is got to be a grass roots campaign by every naked person in America, are you up for the challenge.
